Ah the new year

The new year is almost upon us, I feel almost excited, well more expectant.
I've had a lovely Christmas, very family orientated - the way it should be, nice presents and friends popping up from far flung places as if they only live round the corner.

My new years resolutions are probably the same ones everyone makes
  • To make more of everyday - this does mean I've got to spend less time sitting around daydreaming and more time actually doing things.
  • To appreciate my friends and family more. I have allowed myself to get irritated too easily and as my sister's expecting my first niece or nephew I need to grow in to my role of a bubbly mad auntie Soni.

On the illustration front, I guess my first resolution applies. I had meant to get a ton of work done this holiday but I've allowed myself a lot of time for kicking back and enjoying the holidays. I've written most of my essay, but I'm not convinced it makes sense so may go in for a re-write.

I do however feel recharged and ready for the year ahead.

I'm not religious but I do hope everyone else is well, with friends, and feeling seasonably satisfied. X

Acceleration of time

I can't believe its almost Christmas! I feel like some one is pinching the odd hour here and there, eveytime I look at the clock its later than I was expecting.

I've wasted a whole week being ill, Urgh! I cannot believe how much time has flown past whilst I've been on the lemsip and living under a blanket!

On the positive side I feel I'm more focused from having the time out.

The areas I'm going to work on are:

  • character development
  • black & white work
  • promotion

I've also just bought this book about Raymond Briggs, the Snowman being such a huge childhood christmas memory, it's really inspirational!

Ok I only almost got lost once

I loved my adventure into London, I was really proud of myself for getting all the right trains at the right times. I only got a little confused on the way back when I just followed the crowd when I got off the tube at Green Park and almost ended up getting on the Jubilee line instead of the Victoria... What a faux par! I'm such a London amateur.
It was well worth the journey though - I feel more focused, some of what was said confirmed what I already knew, and other bits made me think - bugger, I've got a lot of work to do.
A lot of work and such little time!

  1. Must draw more
  2. See above
  3. Must get better at self promotion
  4. Must get better at being able to talk infront of a room of people
  5. Must draw more...

London, here I come

Tomorrow I'll be going to London to the 'Looking at Children's Books conference' at the RCA. I can't wait... It'll be a bit of a trek - trains and tubs and not actually knowing where I'm going but it should be worth it.
I'm most looking forward to hearing Sara Fanelli talk, she's a bit of a hero of mine.
The plan is to come away all fired up and ready for action... I'll get back to you on that one.

Well I've been negative all day today, went to uni and winged. It's all dark and wet outside and I'm just plain tired.

However I'm on a mission to get as many people as possible to draw me a monster, can't tell you why yet but I need as many as I can get my hands on.

Taking it easy

I've not got very far. I think I'm easily distracted.
It's been such lovely weather and my garden is full of dragonflies, butterflies and frogs.
I've been lazy, and so I need to do a lot of work yet.
As I said, I'm easily distracted.

New Blog

This is the first of hopefully many posts. I plan to treat this like a sort of creative diary.
I'm in the process of creating a completely new portfolio and when its sort of together I'll be publishing it on my website at www.ickleson.co.uk. There's nothing there yet but there will be soon.
